WONDER (Maintain Women’s Power Against Violence and Sexual Harassment) 2023 is a project organized by DORP and DORA MSCIA UB in commemoration of International Women’s Day which is celebrated on March 8, 2023. The results of the pre-activity assessment in the form of a questionnaire distributed to 43 respondents consisting of the general public showed that all respondents believed that early marriage had the potential to cause violence against women. Furthermore, as many as 23 respondents had experienced or encountered women who experienced violence, but 20 respondents said that they were hesitant and 2 people answered that they did not know what to do when seeing cases of violence against women. Meanwhile, 19 respondents had never received education about early marriage and 14 respondents had never received education about violence against women.
This problem made us organize WONDER with the aim of increasing the knowledge of high school students, FK UB students, and the general public about early marriage and violence against women, including efforts that can be made to solve these problems. In addition, WONDER also aims to form a caring attitude while training participants to become peer educators who are able to educate people around them about sexual violence and early marriage.
WONDER 2023 activities consist of several series. The first series is a pre-activity training activity for DORP and DORA members on March 25, 2023. This training carries the topic “Gender-Based Violence” delivered by PETRA and “Woman Abuse and Gender Equality” delivered by HREF. The activity was carried out with a ground campaign at CFD Idjen Malang City on March 12, 2023. The activity began with a long march accompanied by speeches on early marriage and violence against women. The activity then continued with the distribution of pamphlets to educate the surrounding community and the Stamp For Support campaign to show support for all women in Indonesia.
On March 15, 2023, WONDER held a radio broadcast on Kalimaya Bhaskara radio by bringing in psychologists from Langkahati to discuss cases of early marriage and violence against women. The theme of the radio broadcast was “Embracing their Scars: Get to Know Psychological Impact of Child Marriage and Sexual Violence”. We also consulted psychologists regarding solutions to real cases related to early marriage and violence against women that we collected through questionnaires that we distributed. We also publish articles that further examine cases of early marriage in Indonesia.
The activity continued with the main event on March 19, 2023 consisting of a talk show with the theme “Ceasing Child Marriage as A Way to Empower Human Dignity and Improve Nation’s Health” presented by speakers from IDAI, KPuK, and Komnas Perempuan and presented by 30 representatives of high school students in Malang, the women’s community, and the general public. The activity then continued with SWG which involved all participants to discuss cases related to early marriage and find solutions to problems that occurred. We also invite participants to participate in the Stamp For Support campaign. WONDER 2023 is also holding challenges and campaigns that will be held online from March 23, 2023 to April 7, 2023.
