Established in 2001, the Medical Students’ Committee for International Affairs, also known as MSCIA, is one if the medical students’ organizations in the Faculty of Medicine, Brawijaya University. It is also recognized as one of five international student organizations at Brawijaya University.
Through the name implies “medical students”, member of MSCIA are actually composed of students from all study programs available in the Faculty of Medicine.
MSCIA is a part of a great network of medical students, nationally and internationally. At the national level, MSCIA is affiliated with the Center for Indonesian Medical Students’ Activities (CIMSA) and at the international level with the world’s largest medical student organization – the International Federation of Medical Students’ Association (IFMSA). Through these vast networks, MSCIA is able to engage not only in local or regional projects and events, but also in national as well as in international projects and events.
For over a decade, MSCIA is recognized for its experience in international medical student exchange programs. Two types of exchange programs are offered, a research exchange program and a professional exchange program. Each year, medical students from all over the world travel to Malang to experience a one month research program in a chosen laboratory at the faculty or a one month professional – clerkship program at Saiful Anwar General Hospital. Medical Student from Brawijaya University are also taking part in these exchange programs to experience research and clerkship at medical schools and hospitals in other countries.
Beside these exhange programs, MSCIA has been involved in developing medical students’ skills and knowledge in many field, especially medical education, public health and reproductive health including AIDS. Members are required to be active and through various project and events, they are given the opportunities to develop interpersonal skill as well as other soft-skills. MSCIA does not only serve its members, but also serves the students as well as community and public through its yearly programs and projects.
The programs of MSCIA is run by 5 department of MSCIA: Department of Research Exchange (DORE), Department of Professional Exchange (DOPE), Department of Medical Education (DOME), Department of Public Health (DOPH) and Department of Reproductive Health Including AIDS (DORA).
MSCIA is focusing on the Sustaiable Development Goals (SDGs) point 3, 4, 5, and 13. Therefore, each departement is actively involved in creating and organizing projects towards reaching SDGs.

2. Develop medical students’ interest, ability, and skill in medical professional field, medical education field, medical research field, public health field, and reproductive health including AIDS.
