BREATH (Boosting Respiratory Education, Awareness, Treatment, and Health) is a community development (COMDEV) program organized by MSCIA UB, focusing on Acute Respiratory Infections (ARI). This year marks the second implementation of BREATH, targeting 38 community health cadres from RW 09, Kauman, Malang, and 20 medical student volunteers from Faculty of Medicine Universitas Brawijaya.
The program began with a pre-activity training on April 17th, 2025, at Malang Creative Center for the committee and volunteers. It featured a webinar by dr. Fitri Indah Sari, Sp.P, covering ARI symptoms, risk factors, prevention, and early treatment, followed by a hands-on health check-up session.
The first intervention was held on April 26th, 2025, at the RW 09 Community Hall. It began with morning exercise and tea time, followed by a seminar by dr. Ahmad Dian Wahyudiono, Sp.THT-KL(K) discussing ARI causes and prevention. The session continued with a nasal wash workshop and a roleplay activity using educational posters.
The second intervention, on May 10th, 2025, featured a talk by Dr. dr. Nanik Setijowati, Sp.KKLP on healthy lifestyles to combat ARI. It included a WHO 6-step handwashing roleplay, mask usage education, and a homemade hand sanitizer workshop.
The final intervention, on May 31st, 2025, included a session by dr. Khuznita Dasa Novita, Sp.THT-KL on early ARI detection and healthcare access. It concluded with an educational jeopardy game and a free health screening by volunteers.
Overall, COMDEV BREATH 2025 was successful and well-received, with cadres hoping for even better programs in the future.
